Does anyone know how to disassemble the front wheel hub ??
I would like to change the bearings and detail the hub.
Is there a "special" tool, needed to assist in this task ??
The hub/bearings (both front and rear) are sealed assemblies that don't come apart. You can remove them from the car for cleaning/detailing, but they are not servicable - when they fail they are replaced.
What do you mean by detail?? You can make it look pretty nice w/ just cleaning. Mine still had the stock grey paint & after I polished the surrounding alum. looked nice.
Trog...
the spindle looks great !!
I am doing the same except after polishing, I am going to Hard Clear Anodize all of the pieces. The wheel hub (that contains the wheel bearings) is the
piece in question, since it is made of steel. :D
I would clean it up real good so as to have all the rust removed, paint it a bit and then let it go at that. You don't see it and since it is a throw away part you don't want to go hog wild on it unless you own a trailer queen show car, then chrome it.
After you remove the wheel and brake stuff, there are four bolts holding it on. Undo the ABS sensor if equipped and the bracket that holds the ABS wire. It'll fall right out and then you can clean it all you like.
