Default L98 ETs

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum. Have been driving L98s for 14 years - recently got my 350 Camaro in the 12s - 12.83 @ 105.6 - backed it up with 12.80s & 12.90s at 3 different tracks (Great Lakes, US41, & Byron) in the last 2 months. Thought I'd run these times by the Vette crowd & see how they stack up. Was wondering if anyone's seen a better et from an L98 given the following restrictions:

stock L98 camshaft, stock Corvette aluminum heads, stock block (rebuilt .040 over, for 357 cid), stock computer, stock TPI fuel injection setup (with bolt-on siamese runners & accel lower manifold), 3450 lb car without driver, emissions legal with catalytic converters, stock suspension setup except for polyeurathane bushings & Hotchkins rear arms & panhard rod (ie. - it corners great too), no nitrous, no superchargers, no turbos - just straight motor.

it's basically a balanced & blueprinted "'91 Vette Spec" TPI L98 with all the bolt-on tricks I could think of. every bit as streetable as a stocker.

thanks - curious to know,

KC

Vic - very impressive - has anyone beaten your 12.73? Where did you do it - what track? How was the weather? Got any other mods up your sleeve to try & lower that mark?

KC

Vic races at Raceway Park,Englishtown,NJ. His car runs awesome.

65 Z01 also runs some nice times in his 88 Anniversary car.

Wow - the 3 times I've been to Englishtown - all for SLP CAP day - the track has been real slippery & tough to run good numbers. This past October - a couple of months ago - I ran a best of 13.15 @ 103.9 & was having a little trouble hooking up in spite of having Mickey Ts - high 1.7 60 fts - I usually run low 1.7s. Didn't have my electric water pump installed yet or I might have run 13.0s @ 104+ in spite of limited traction. Is E-town slick all the time, or do they spray it better on other days?

merry christmas guys,

KC

Not that I am aware of.

Where did you do it - what track? How was the weather?
As Mojo stated, Englishtown at the Corvette Challenge events.
Weather wa about 50 degs.

Got any other mods up your sleeve to try & lower that mark?
Yes, 2 more small mods. ;)
I always report all mod/track results on the forum.
I'll have to wait until March when the track opens.

my basically stock 89' Vette has run a best of 13.16 at 104.73mph. my limited mods are: K&N filter, airfoil, AFPR, crank pulley, catless front ypipe, borla rear ypipe, S10 stall, DRs, and free mods.

i believe the car has a 12 sec pass in it (as indicated by the mph), but i wasnt able to make it down to my local track with the DRs on before the season ended. i tried running at Atco because i heard its a fast track (and theyre open year round), however i went 2 tenths and almost 3 mph slower than at Cecil County. i believe this is because Atco lays down so much traction compound that it makes for alot of rolling resistance down the track. guess ill have to wait til Cecil reopens in Feb
Yes, 2 more small mods. ;)
hey Vic... im thinking heads and cam?

I have to respectfully say that I seriously doubt the traction compound slowed you down - it was probably just a difference in the weather. Good Luck on hitting the 12s.

weather condidtions were almost identical between the 2 tracks. ive talked to a few other drag racers from around here and most agree that Cecil is a faster track than Atco

I haven't run at Cecil County, but I get to Atco quite ab it and normally run my best times there. I know Atco is very close to sea level (some even say its below) so with the right weather and traction I'd think you would run quick there.

Atco is the place where GM High Tech ran 12.89 @ 109 with a stock '99 Z28 & 12.67 @ 111 with a stock '99 Vette, if I remember - it must be pretty fast when properly prepared.

Thanks - wish I had a Vette - might have hit 12.6 or 12.7 without all the F-body weight to tote around.

i'm with tpivette89. we mostly have the same mods.

87 Coupe
Current Mods:
Mostly stock all free mods K&N open air box, MAF descreened, TB Bypassed, 160* T-Stat, Accel Super Coil, 12* degree advance timing, new front Y pipe with no pre-cats, and No Mufflers. Hayden Tranny cooler. Stock 1600 rpm stall and a 2.59 rear gear.

Best 60' 1.815 on Street Tires!
Best ET 13.264
Best MPH 104.65

i think she'd pull a low 13.0 on a good night on a perfect shot. i got a set of TPiS long tube headers i'm putting on with an AFPR then off to dyno tune for a chip. i'm hoping to be down in Vic's #'s. once i hit consistant 12's i'm doing some head work, adding a ZZ409 cam with 1.6 RR's which gives me 555" lift :D and some intake mods. SLP runners and big mouth base ported. nothing spectacular. i am thinking on putting forged pistons in her with a new set of bearings so if i juice her :D. H/C work N/A 12.0's 12.2's 150 shot low to mid 11's?!?!?!

we'll see should be fun :D

Wow - I'm impressed with your guys times with the stock gear & torque converters. Especially with the 1.8 60 fts.

I think a torque converter & drag radials will get you into the 12s as is.
