Fired up the 383 today!
I was at the Vette Doctors when they fired up my new 383 today.
It basically only ran for a couple of seconds before we shut it down, it sounded like crap.
They also installed a DFI, so there is a lot of tuning to do.
I also see that I need an exhaust (I currently have LT headers, random tech cats, x pipe, straight pipe. It sounds terrible.
I'll post updates as they happen.

Maybe the exhaust sounded like crap because the engine sounded like crap??
if not then maybe you need some mufflers ?

When you say it sounded terrible, what was wrong? Couldn't the ECM keep up with it?

Crap as in missing, popping, sputtering?
Or Crap as in wrong growl, high pitched, humm?
My car with open headers and a stock computer fired up and sounded like a freakin' Alcohol racecar. My buddies truck with ZZ502 and FAST programmable Fuel Injection sounded basically like crap, took about two days of tuning before it sounded like a ZZ502, now it's perfect.
Don't get discouraged, just tune a bit and you'll be happy!
PS. Video Clip of open headers:
