Here's the deal, I will be upgrading my vette (-88 automatic) with SuperRam plenum, runners and manifold.
Camshaft will be Lingenfeller 219. However my engine is still basic 350, so which cylinder heads would be best suited for this combo
Could someone send me a pictures of installed superRam? Any problems with hood clearance?
You are going to hear a couple things in the next few post. I think the LPE worked over #113 are the way to go. JD 383 has a set on his 383 that is running 120mph+ In the 1/4 Right behind him there is Holeshot Same head. Then you have Ralph that is running a 118MPH on a 350 with a set of worked over AFR Heads. But I think If Jay where to completly set up his car for the 1/4 You will see a better MPH. Skinnies up front etc...
You will like the SR. No hood clearance issues. The install is a PITA the first few times, but after that its not all that bad. Remember to put the TV cable down under the plenum, or you will get more practice at installing it.
As for the heads. I *would* normally suggest AFR 190s or 195s, but recent quality problems have plagued their products and HUGE lead times make me hesitant to suggest them.
Brodix is making some Killer heads, but they are 215cc and 227cc, and I think they would be too much for a 350. Your power band would be too high and you would loose velocity bigtime.
Research some head manufactures, look at CFM flow values through the lifts and plot them against each other. The ones with the best flows will yield the best results. Try to stay in the 190-195cc range.
Here is one good set, actually they look better than AFR 195 heads.
AFR only beats them out on .500+ lift by 3 CFM, which for me to take the chance of a quality problem, is not worth it. I suggest these ones. Maybe other have other suggestions.
Re: Calling for SuperRam specialists! (ski_dwn_it)
What Jesse said.
The AFR and LPE heads have proven to work great with this combo. However, AFR is way backlogged and LPE is very expensive. If you can wait, the AFR 195s might be the safest, most cost effective choice. Those Canfields might be good too. I've only heard good things about the Canfields, but never saw them run with this combo.
You should be very happy with this combo. I've gone a best of 11.62 @ 117+ mph with my 90K mile 350, and we've duplicated the combo several times and they all run good, if you pat attention to details. good luck
Nice to hear that there aren't any hood clearance issues.
I just got E-mail from Cruzin Performance and they have a killer deal on SuperRam (plenum, runners and base). I think I will be ordering from them.
My budget might be getting a bit tight with those heads so I cannot afford "the best" and the most expensive heads. I agree that 190-195cc heads would be perfect for my setup. I will look into those AFR and Canfield heads.
One head to consider if you are on a budget is the GM Vortec heads. They are cast iron, and I have heard they outflow the Bowtie heads while having smaller valves. There are some downsides to them- they can only accomodate a modest lift cam in stock form, and they will require a dedicated base manifold.
I believe Soggin-Dickey sells the heads modified for higher lift cams for around $500 pr (these are brand new heads), and they sell a new TPI base which is kind of pricey at like $350 or so. I dont have any idea how that base compares to stock or to the SR base, but it might be worth looking into.
These heads are known for making serious power "out of the box" and are supposed to have excellent flow and velocity which might just make them ideal for a super ram
There was one other question that I forgot to ask. It's about Torque Converter.
Which Torque converter should work best with my setup? My guess is somewhere 2400-2800 range.
Any input on that?
Any more "less expensive heads for Lingenfeller 219 cam and SuperRam? I would really like to keep that camshaft so GM Vortec heads are NOT suited for me.
I had a Vigilante 3000 convertor that came with my 383 from Lingenfelter. Honestly, I did not care for it and am glad it poofed. :)
I now have a Pro Torque 2800 lock up convertor that I am quite pleased with. It might not be the ultimate "bracket race, or weekend warrior" convertor, but I have gone in the 11's at over 120 with it and I drive the car everywhere.
I just emailed you a few superram hints and tricks files that I have kept over the years. I used them the first time I installed the superram. They should help you :yesnod:
Any one of the 180cc to 195cc heads can be setup to make about 500HP with the right cam and right header configuration with the SR. Peak power will be less with the LPE219 cam, but the midrange will still be very strong with near stock drivability.

jutammel,
I just emailed you a few superram hints and tricks files that I have kept over the years. I used them the first time I installed the superram. They should help you :yesnod:
Jim
85vet, would you please email those hints and tricks files to me at lallend1 @ netscape.net
Sounds like good info for anyone who has/or is considering the SR to read!
Prorably not, a bit too expensive. I am doing this SuperRam project with my buddy who has also a corvette, -89 model. We are both building SuperRams together. We have a mechanic that has a extensive knowledge in HotRodding, so he will be helping us to build the SuperRam setup. The tuning will done by him also.
We need custom chips for sure. ANy good places to get custom chip burned?
