Default 3:73's with a 4+3

Anyone know how a 4+3 car will act with 3:73's in it? Will the ratio screw with the computer as far as how the 4+3 shifts in and out of OD automatically? Installing 3:73's in these cars seems like it would be a great idea because of all the overdrive selections the 4+3 offers you. Anyone know anything about this swap?? :steering:

I will be doing it come spring. The overdrive shifts are based on throttle position, RPM and MPH. You should be fine as long as you change the speedometer gears to reflect the gear change. There is one thing that'll be messed up and that is the silly little shift light. That can be changed with some more in depth chip work.

You can do up to 126mph in 4th gear and a 26" tall tire with the 3.73s.

It works great! I haven't done the speedo gear swap so I can't tell you what the speeds are but I'm thinking it is closer to 121mph at 6000 in 4th. I've got my OD set to manual mode so I don't have to worry about the shift points.

Allowing the OD to shift is probably not a good idea with this set up. There is a hell of a hit going between 4th and 4th OD if you don't use the clutch. Don't know what the effect is on the 1/4 mile times yet either.

It works great!
Hows it feel off the line? You have the same MPH I do in the 1/4 and the bog at the start w/3.07s and the 2.88 first is the huge thing holding me back (well at least I think so).

You're right. :yesnod: I meant to say 6300 which is where I'm willing to run my own engine to. I just ran the calculator again and 6000 RPM w/3.07 is 145mph. With the 3.73s it is 119mph.

The 1/4 mile times and mph were with 3.07s. I was getting some bog running 11" tires with the 3.07s. Seat of the pants it launches much harder with no bog at all. The biggest problem is putting the power down. 1st is real short around town, but the OD solves everything after that.

They make lowspeed autocrosses on parking lots rather fun :D They make you much smoother on the go pedal.

Thanks for the response guys. Sounds like this is gonna be a great mod. I know that 3:73's really work well the old 5.0 Mustangs so they should be even better in this car and make it pull really nice. :seeya
