Default low coolant

Hi Everyone.

I have a Blue 1989 and a Red 1974. The '89 has a problem that I can't seem to fix. The low coolant light comes on and off intermittently. Sometimes not for days. Sometimes it will come on (after reaching oper. temp.) and then go off. The coolant is full in the radiator and resevoir. I thought the radiator cap may be bad so I replaced it. I thought that was the fix as it didn't come on for days, but now it's back. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Merry Christmas to all.

Sounds like you might have air trapped in the system. Check out this post for instructions on how to "burp" the system.

Good luck & Merry Christmas

When I replaced my Tstat (180) I drilled 4 1/16 holes around the perimeter of it. If I open my cooling system for any reason, It will purge by it'self but it does take a few heating and cooling cycles to do it. Until it does purge , I get intermittant low coolant light but no overheating.
