oil leaking from flywheel cover.Any ideas on the source?Has anyone had the front of the oil pan leak, or am I looking at changing the rear seal? The pan is covered by the flywheel cover so I'm thinking it could be that and draining through the hole in the bottom of the cover.
Pull the flywheel cover and see where its coming from.
You might be surprised. I would also check the oil pan
bolts all around and snug em up. Wipe it up and look for
leaks/wetness. I heard alot of folks here on the forum
say that an intake manifold can cause oil leaks elsewhere
so be ready for anything. As far as the front of the pan
leaking, on older C4's, there is a bolt in the front of the
block that over time, falls out and it will leak oil and look
like a front oil pan leak. Happened to me, this bolt is right
next to where a fuel pump would be mounted. Other than
that, if leaks persist, replace the pan gasket along with
the front and rear seals .... Good Luck!
If the rear seal is the problem, some one told me that unlike older Chev. blocks the rear seal can be changed by removing the trans and changing the seal rather than pulling the engine and replacing the seal under the rear main.
The engine can sit at idle for an hour and not leak.Run it at 2000 rpm and you can see the drops hit the floor.Vette is a "93" would this engine have the bolt you talked about?
Thanks for your help and the welcome to the Forum.
Im not sure the 93's have that bolt, all my books are at home and Im at work...
But the fact you say it idles ok without a drop then if you run it at 2g's rpm
it'll leak may mean something else... Sorry thats all I got...
