Default 1985 Shift points

I would like to know if anyone out there knows what the shift points should be for an 1985 L98 automatic transmission. I think my shift points (based on RPMS) are too high when the shifts occur. The car is pretty much stock except for low temp thermostat and low temp aux fan turn on switch.

So at what RPM are your shifts occurring?

The devil's in the details.

Shifting seems to take place at around 2000-2200 rpms for all gears. 1-2 shifts at 19 mph, 2-3 shifts at 29 mph and 3-4 shifts at 45 mph.

Are you talking about just driving around town or full throttle? Full throttle you want it to shift at about 4600. Shifting at anything under 2000 just driving around is probably going to seriously lug the engine and give horrible mileage if not shuddering depending on the auto gear ratios that I can't remember right now.

This driving around town, not at full throttle.

Driving around town my 85 normally will shift around 2K for the 1-2 shift, 2-3 happens after 30mph, and it will shift to 4th at 42mph.
I think my WOT shifts are more about 5000rpm, right about where the engine power starts to really drop off. One nice thing about the 85s is our high stall converter.
