Default Stay with 285s/255s or change?

I need tires and am trying to decide what to do. I know the Z51 cars had 275/40/17s all around (on matching 9 1/2" rims) , and frankly I like the idea because it allows me to rotate tires and get more miles out of a set, but the 285s (or even bigger) look good out back. For now I think I'm gonna stay with the factory sawblades but might consider picking up a nice used pair of 9 1/2s to put on the front to match. Then I could go 275 or more on the front.

What are you guys doing for tire sizes?

I'm picking up my new wheels and tires in about two hours (after a five week wait ).
I stayed with the stock tire sizes (255/285) based on the assumption that the design engineers knew what they were doing. :)

You guys with 17" wheels are lucky. My 87 hs 16". Almost no size options if I keep the stoock wheels 255/50 is about it.

Mine came with 275/315 on the stock 8.5/9.5 rims and the look is cool from the rear, but il'l go with the stock sizes next, unless I get some 11'' ers for the rear...

I recently installed 285/255s on my coupe, I went with BF Goodrich, G-Force,KDWS they are priced decent, and seem to work well so far. A friend told me that on his coupe when he put 275s all around the steering was heavier on bad roads that are sunk in on either side from big rigs. I agree that it is best to stay with the factory sizes. Hank

I have bought a used set of sawblades to mount DRs on the rear. But after thinking about it I will buy 275 Drs and mount them on the 8.5" wheels, then use the 9.5 wheels to upgrade to 285s on the front.

From what I have read and been told, GM went with the smaller fronts because of customer complaints about the car following pavement iregularities. Too much steering wander for the average guy on the interstates. IF Z51 cars can go down the highway with matching tires, why not a good standard car with tight shocks and suspension in good condition?

Plus, you can rotate the tires to get better wear. I'm tired of throwing away fronts that have just a worn shoulder and like new center section. I'll even up that wear on the rear with burnouts.
