Lock up kit and Dist. question?

A distributor from a boneyard would also work- just look for one with a vacum advance cannister hanging off it so you are sure its pre-computer. They are all one wire hook-up.
For the lockup portion, why not just install a switch to apply the lockup clutch? I have the TCI kit but always use manual control.
Good luck...

"but didnt go into great amount of detail" Indeed!
Do you ever read any of the threads on here? Do you have any intension of trying to learn anything? Or would you rather ask the same questions over and over, with no knowledge to help you separate the wheat from the chaff?
Help is one thing. We all need some guidance and help from time to time. A lot of peiple ask how certain things work. That is a lot of what this forum is all about. But it is almost like you want us to do it for you. "He helps those the most, who help themselves." I keep trying to help you, but you seem to refuse to be helped.

No one is trying to starts "post wars". Indeed this is an excellent place to get tech help. When I first bought my 86 about 2 years ago when I turned 21, I knew very little about how it worked and how to work and maintain it. It needed a LOT of work. The FIRST thing I invested in was a good repair manual. It has proved INVALUABLE, has saved me LOTS money, and has given me a strong understanding of my Vette. Since then I have done major repairs from head gaskets replacement, to clearing trouble codes, to rebuilding the front end suspension, rebuilding my alternator, and much more.
I agree with CFI-EFI
Once you first really understand your Vette, it becomes easier. My 86 was a slow POS with a lot of problems. Now it is the most dependable car I have ever driven and it really accelerates and handles very well. It is now a pleasure to own and drive my Vette instead of a money pit. Working on something that you might not fully understand can lead to expensive and unpleasant experiences in the future.
Get the manual CFI-EFI recommended. You will not regret it and you will find that it is help to you now and in the future, even though you might not think so right now. You mentioned that you already have a repair manual. The Helms is the real deal. Arm yourself with the knowledge in it.

Good luck with you 84 and remember, you don't want to ask for help and then get upset towards someone who is taking the time to help you out. It will only cause others members to not want to help you man. Good luck with your project.
