Default Speaker Mounting....

I have a pair of Audiobahn 6x9" ABF 'Flame Series' component speakers that im mounting in the back of my car. If some of you know Audiobahn, they pack their speakers with huge magnets on the bottom. So everything fit well in the back except for the bottom. Only 2 of the 4 screws line up with the holes when i mount it to the original hole. There's probably about an inch sticking out on the top. Now inside the original speaker hole, on the corner it curves up at an angle. Is it ok if I cut that out to make the magnets fit? There are'nt any major wires that ill be cutting or anything I'll be damaging?? Thanks in advance...

Post this in the audio section, maybe you can get help there for this question. I've read it twice and am unclear what you are asking exactly. Is this a non-blose system? You aren't using the stock enclosures or are you?

I don't *think* there is anything back there that you're going to cut into, however you're going to have a hole in the fiberglass box that renders a decent bass out of a 6x9.

I think you'd be better off trying to build a spacer out of particle board than cutting into the fiberglass, this is just my opinion.

what hes asking is what is behind the fiberglass under the rear amp enclosures for the stock speakers. He is trying to put the 6x9s in place of the stock rear speaker and amp space, but the magnets make it so the speakers wont fit flush.

Speaker Mounting.... Let me think,,,,

Well, it's been my experience that it's best done between sentences. Otherwise, it has a tendency to interupt the flow of the speach.

Uh-oh, I don't think that's what you were getting at huh? I'm sorry......

I know what he was asking, I will reiterate - you can install 8" subs into the rear speaker enclosures.

IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE ANY MAJOR DAMGE YET, YOU BEST BET WOULD BE TO MAKENEW SPACER OUT OF 3/4 MDF (MEDIUM DENSITY FIBERBOARD). YOU CAN FIND IT AT ANY HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE. THIS SPACER CAN BE PLACED UNDER THE CARPETING, AND WILL RAISE THE SPEAKER UP 3/4'S PLUS. I DID THIS AND IT WORKED FOR ME. GOOD LUCK !!!
