91 vette battery
i drove the vette last night and noticed the headlights dim when i came to a stop even more when i stepped on the brake i do have a system in the car with some aftermarket gauges but the alternator is a 140 amp and it is new the battery is about a year old i don't drive it much in the winter and i just bought a battery maintainer i think i'm to late?? it does charge when i drive but when i stop the volt gauge goes to half or a little less. any ideas maybe a new battery????

I would drive to a good autoparts store and have them put their test machine on the car.It sounds like your alternator might be a bit weak.If you replace your battery, go with an OPTIMA.Around here (Florida) Autozone will test your whole charging system for free. :chevy

Just like your engine, your alternator puts out more power at higher rpms. Even with a 140 amp altenator, it sounds like you are drawing more than it can supply at idle. The fact that it charges when you drive off, is a pretty good indicator of that. It sounds like everthing is working properly.
