My '90 L98's Check Engine light came on for a period of time last night and then went out. I checked the code memory today an EGR fault (code 32) was displayed. The diagnostic check looks simple enough but when I attempted to pull the vacuum hose "manifold" off of the EGR solenoid it did not pull off as easily as I expected. Should it pull straight off of the solenoid or is there a retainer that I cannot see? I always worry when these things seem harder to remove than I expect.
If what you are referring to is that rubber piece with 2 vaccum hoses on the EGR solenoid, next to the thermostat housing, it pulls off with some neddle nose pliers. It is only pressed in horizontally. No clips or anything.
I just went through this a few days ago. I also got the Code 32 flashed.
I replaced the EGR switch that is threaded to the EGR pipe and the "Check Engine" light does not come on anymore.
