Has anyone bought and installed a tach filter in their '90 Corvette? I can find tach filters for the '89 and the '92 (at Eckler's), but nothing listed for '90 or '91. I am tempted to just order the '89, because it is the same motor? My only problem is that the dash is the same as the '92, therefore the tach is the same as the '92. Any ideas? Who can I call?
Why do you need a filter?? Did you install an aftermarket ignition?? My '90 has a big butt filter stock that is bolted to the back of the block, drivers side, which is now bypassed & the tach feed from the Accel 300+ appears to drive my tach better than the stock signal, always smooth steady & appears to be accurate based on my Sears tune up box tach.
Ps. The instructions w/ my Accel box listed needing a tach filter but when I called them they said only if I had problems would I need to order it. I was kinda pissed as I had talked to tech before ordering it & they didn't mention it at all, only when I read instructions did I learn about it & it read as NEEDED not optional. It works, I didn't need it & so I was satisfied...
Filter part #14093115 is for 1984-90 but is discontinued from GM. Part #12088559 is for 1991-94 also discontinued. 1994 is the last year that used a tach filter.
I found out the same thing..disscontinued...I have been told that MAD has a filter..but it looks alot different then the one that was on my 86...My tach is pretty steady, I just don't want to damage the digital dash... :chevy
The tach on my 90 vette acts similar. On start-up, it pegs over 6000 and then drops below zero and stays there. It does not register anything after that. Since the filters seem to be discontinued, should the filter be bypassed?

90 has THE most inaccurate tach of all years if it makes you feel any better.
The 89 tach filter is for the atari dash. The 90 went analog. Not sure if they are the same filter or just different connectors.
I am told the tack signal off the stock HEI is relatively unstable and needs the filter for resolution. Some EE may be of help. I understand witchcraft, but some electrical concepts are beyond my underperforming brain.
I seem to remember Gordon Killebrew commenting about buying the new style tack filter and changing the 90's connector and it should work. Again, this is conjecture, second hand, unverified, internet quality material. Someone on the CB will likely have better info.
