my 85 has 107k on it. the clutch is near its end and ATF if beginning to leak anywhere it can from the overdrive. is it possible to pull the doug nash and replace it with a 6 speed? how expensive is it to clean up the 4+3 with a new clutch and resurface the places where leaks are occuring (already replaced gaskets about a year and a half ago) vs. buying a 6 speed (not new of course) if possible.

Going price for an overdrive rebuild I think is ~$1200 (don't quote me on it though). Which is insanely overpriced for what it is. Going prices for ZF6s in good shape are $1500, then you have to buy the bellhousing, flywheel, slave cylinder & other misc. pats.
Occassionally you can find the complete parts set needed (ZF6, bellhousing, C beam, driveshaft, clutch slave unit, etc.) for the conversion. Normally they end up running between $2800 and $3000.
I am doing this conversion as we speak on my 84. My clutch blew and I decided that since I was going to drop a trans anyway, why not replace it. There are a number of details to make sure you get right. Although people have used the 4+3 FW, it seems that the best alteernative is to get an aluminum replacement with a sprung hub disc. I am using the Fidanza FW built for just this conversion. Along with the stock PP and an SLP LT-1 Camaro disc.
