Default Damaged Cylinder Head.

Well, my start to 2004 has been a dropped AFR cylinder head on my garage floor.... literally chipped the garage floor and not sure what the total damage to the cylinder head is....I was selling these heads too boot !!

Has anybody else been dumb enough to drop a $ 500 cylinder head on to concrete and if yes, what was the damage ? Did the cylinder head actually crack ??

Going to drop them off somewhere next week....

thanks

Hasn't there been enough violence already? How about taking them and gently setting them down at a machine shop.

 How far was the fall? If it landed on the corner of the head and not on a valve stem, it'll be fine.

Good luck! I thought at first that the valve DROPPED, not the whole cylinder head, you scared me!

They fell off my work bench, which is a bit high, maybe bar height, thus around 3 feet... and they bent two studs and not sure what to the springs, but they're scraped as well as the side of the head.

Here is my 2004 tip of the year.... do not lean a $ 500 cylinder head on a Weld CenterCap and expect it not to slide.

Sorry to hear about your start to the new year.

It's amazing how we can sometimes completely ignore our own thoughts. My guess is when you leaned that cylinder you second guessed yourself. It's right up there with the "If I pull any harder, I'm going to strip this bolt" followed by a quick YANK and :banghead: .

Hellofaway to begin the new year, isn't it. Sorry to hear what happened.

This one's a toss up. If they are AFR's heads, I would not let anyone else but AFR work on them should you decide to send/take them in to be checked. I had an experience with a local shop trying to "undo" AFR's guide work. Just thei way of getting $$ I believe.

If two studs bent that tells me they took the brunt of the impact, so I don't believe anything is was damaged. I'd check the stud bosses though, for any visual sign of cracking.

If I didn't see any obvious damage to the retainer(s) I'd replace the bent studs and bolt the heads on.

If you can spare the time, send them back for inspection.

Like I said, a toss up.
