I am about to finally weld in my roll bar ,actually 6 point, into my 88..I know ive gotten alot of excellent response from everyone on this so im back..Ive done 3 other cars, but not a vette..Any dont dos, or anything special with this car i need to watch for???? I guess you have plenty of ***** doing it for other people , but when it comes to your own ride, i guess i just want to make sure before the arc strikes!!!!
Thanks!!!!
I always unhook the battery before welding but did NOT unplug anything else when I welded in my DRM chassis bars & the mounts for my X-brace.
On the rear chassis (roll) bar you have to cut through the fiberglass rear pan in front of the rear speakers. Afterwards, I re-glassed the hole to the bar & I'm not so sure now it was such a great idea. Should have left an air gap & used flexible sealer. I have a squeak on the drivers side now where I think the body vibrates against the bar. I haven't pulled the carpets etc. again to see if that is it or if one of the plastic pieces I also trimmed is the culprit...
Otherwise what a diff between the X-brace, bar & camber brace. Now I know why they went through so much trouble on the C5 to stiffen things up.
