Re: Anyone using Brodix Track 1 heads? (ski_dwn_it)
I was going to run them and I ended up with the canfields. Just let me tell you if the Track 1's are close to the T1's and you have a super ram and headers, whew good luck. Everything bolted together easy until you tried to install valve covers and spark plugs. It can be done because I am driving my car now, but no more quick spark plug changes. I actually had to dent a header as much as I hated to just to get the #4 plug in. They make awesome power though so I guess it was worth it.
Snake.....which heads and headers were you referring to.....ya sorta lost me. Were these fitment issues with the Canfields or the T1s?
Jesse the exhaust ports are raised 1/2 inch according to Brodix. Dave is using the Hookers, but has no exhaust.
The LPEs fit perfect on the drivers side, but the passenger side has problems with 2 tubes (#2 & #8). One might go with a short plug, but the other is not going to happend
I have the canfields but they are very close to the T1's. I am running the Lingenfelter headers and the #2 header pipe actually passes right in front of the #4 plug. Also if you have aftermarket aluminum valve covers have fun with the Super Ram. You and your grinder will become very close.
Justin
Yep the #2 tube cuts right across the #4 plug. How did you make it work? It doesn't look like a dent will help......as it cuts right down the middle of the plug. The #8 tibe also interferes with the #6 plug. A short plug and and a dent in the tube might correct that issue.
I'm still using the stock perimeter bolt valve covers. I just mocked them up and they look like they'll fit OK. Of course the SR base is not a very good match to the 1206 intake runner of the T1s tho.
MY situation is a lot different than yours, but I trial fit my headers to my heads and found interference like you describe. I had to have one of the header primary tubes relocated. Luckily I did this before I had them coated. I've never had this set up in the car, but if they'll fit the chassis, I know the plugs will be removable. Good luck, and...
Ralph, I've got M2 Track 1's with LPE headers and I dimpled both #2 & #8 primaries. Just use a torch to warm up the tube and some heavy gauge round tubing and a BFH (big f---ing hammer) . # 8 will take the most work and # 2 is actually not much if you use a short plug like the Autolite AR3910, 3911, depending on your application. I've got 90 degree boots and put some Accel Pro Sleeve on the boots ends cut at a 45 degree cut. Then just slid the sleeve over the 90 so both sides of the 90 are protected. Hope this helps.
Ralph, Like I said, my situation is a lot different than yours. Actually, the situation isn't so different, as are the parts involved. I bought a new set of obsolete # 2148 Hooker headers off of eBay, for a song. I test fit them on a pair of Bowtie heads. I'm sure this is on no help, but...
Thanks Widebody,I'm going to have to look at them again, but the #2 tube looked impossible to work around as the plug was right in the middle of the tube. I'm going to mock it up one more time before i give up.
Also, how did the y-pipe fit with the T1s? I should probably set the heads on the 350 and mock the whole thing up.
Get just one plug of the short Autolites I mentioned. They're a significant amount shorter, and when you mock them up you'll see what I mean. #2 is not that much of a dimple, it's #8 that takes work. I know over the years LPE changed manufacturers on their headers. My # 2 tube actually interferes with # 4 plug. If thats the situation you have, the short plugs combined with dimpling shoud work. Oh and the Y pipe is actually a custom X so I really cant answer that one.
