Ok guys i got a 95 corvette and my opti spark just went out. i got the car completely in pieces at the moment & the only thing holding me back is the balancer. I just can't seem to get the bastard off. The three screws have been removed, the arrow is at 90 degrees & I have been trying to knock it off from the bottom of the car with a bar and hammer but its not budging, any advice?
Another question I have is about the water pump. I noticed its about to go so im going to replace it but im not sure what to use. I don't really want to go with the stock unit. I want something more reliable, is their any pump i could replace it with that's going to give me 100K Miles? "for crying out loud" is it too much to ask for to have a reliable water pump? this thing went at 40K Miles.

Hey Bronx, Take a look at this article I wrote. Maybe some answers will be in there. The only thing that has come out since I wrote it was the DynoSpark from DynoTech (one of our vendors). There is also a mod out but fabrication is required, called LTCC. Meziere HD Coolant Pump is the way to go. And your 95 opti is vented. https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...=231&TopicID=2
as for the opti crap i have been studying that one for a while.
I'm going to stick the vacuum hose in the cockpit and
seal the opti in silicone, also I'm going to put a rubber ring around the back
just like this one http://www.dynotech-eng.com/images/dynaspark_gen2.jpg
I don't know if it will work but if not i will just have to shell out the $599.00 for their unit.
Actually the Meziere HD is rated at 2500 hours. That's much longer than a OEM can last and the replacement is a snap; 6 screws and remove and replace; $200. And it won't leak all over your distributor.
Oh, one more thing, Don't get cheap on this one, Put the best distributer you can in there because you probably don't want to do this project again real soon. Yes, I sealed the entire cap bead with sylicone as well as the connector plug.
ill go with the Meziere over stock but i want to be sure I'm making the best choice possible. how's gas mileage when using an electric pump? I know they offer more HP but speed is not really what I'm interested in. reliability is 1st and foremost, when it comes to the water pump ill pay extra if need be.
Be careful keep hammer the balancer because it will damage your crank seal and cause oil leak. The center bolt must be loosen up it bolt your crank hub to the crank shalf. .
If all you are doing is replacing the opti, (ie leaving the front cover on) all you need to do is pull the balancer/hub out far enough with a HB puller to remove the opti, it does not have to come completely off just far enough to remove the opti. I could not get the balancer off the hub so I just pulled it out a little, opti came off no sweat. If you are pulling the front cover then you have to remove the balancer from the hub. :seeya
