I'm very happy with the performance of my 1990 L98 Vette. But I want more. I just dropped the new motor in. Stock 350 bored .040 over. Dished pistons. :mad Would I loose alot of horsepower with a full point (8.5:1 now, stock is 9.5:1)?? My parents wouldn't let me, nor could I afford a new cam/heads, etc. But now I'm looking at intakes. How much horsepower would I gain with a 52 or 58mm throttle body, porting the intake, adding big tube ASM intake runners, and keeping the stock manifold? I have the air foil and K&N filter with cut lid. I heard alot of power was lost with the intake and runners, but nt with the manifold/base. Is this true? In that case, I assume the inake runners like ASM would help increase horsepower without hurting torque?
Any other mods that are cheap (under a grand) that are effective. I have the exhaust, am buying a Y-pipe, maybe a true dual exhaust. I also might (keyword: might) buy headers, depending on how hard they are to remove and install.
What I have now: Flowmaster exhaust, K&N air filter, cut lid, air foil, no throttle bosy bypass (yet: soon), and removed frisbee.
My goal is to get 13.5 ET's.
Any ideas?
P.S.- I was thinking of putting 1.6RR on, but heard tat this might cause coil bind. I don't want to also replace the springs. So, am I safe to use 1.6RR without changin the springs, and still be able to rev it to 5500RPMs?
Dont buy the larger TB, the stocker is quite adequate.
The restrictive parts are exhaust manifolds, intake manifolds, and runners/plenum. Our intake manifold is very restrictive so eventually it must be worked over or replaced. Adding larger runners and porting what you have now (plenum/base) should get you more than what you want in terms of ET.
You can install 1.6rr, you may have to mod the inside of the valve covers to get them clearance tho.
Its unfortunate you couldnt install a new cam with the motor out, the stock heads can flow plenty of power so they dont need to be replaced.
Well, at some point I do plan on porting the intake....but I won't be able to do it till over the summer. So for now, I'll only be able to do the runners and plenum. I tried talking him into a cam....no-go. "Has enough power already"
Would the stock rear and drivetrain handle some slicks if I decide to buy some?
