Emissions failure
HC CO RPM
116 0.10 2500
726 0.03 714
Allowable HC at idle is 220 at 1100 rpm - I got a ways to go!
I read thru the forum archives saw lots of ideas, but none seemed to be same problem as mine. At first it looked like it could be cat, but someone said CO's should be high then too? It would appear EGR is working at higher revs, should I try just bumping up my idle? (is that difficult on a C4 - I'm an old school carb guy). In trouble shooting the car when I first got it found lots of vacumn leaks (mice love those little hoses behind the radio...) and the biggest problem was the fuel pump housing was rusted all the way around! Fixed all of that and the car runs great now, but I didn't pay attention to rough idle until after the test. It idles smooth when cold. The car was up to temp when I took it in. I also had changed an O2 on drivers side to fix the original problems when I first got the car (Oct. 03).
If cats are the solution, I would appreciate any recommendation on price/performance/sound. I will be laying on my back doing this myself unless the smart answer is a Midas shop that does hot rod cats.
Thanks in advance for any help given. This is a great place for info.
There are a few tips near the bottom of the page. Hope this helps man.
