Greeting:
I've got a 1996 Collector's Edition with the 6 speed standard and I absolutely hate, ,the 1st to 4th feature. I read recently, in Corvette Magazine, that there is a wire you can disconnect under the dash by the pedals. Does anyone know how this is done specifically, done it themselves or now of a resource that would explain how this is done. I'm a novice at car, all you help woud be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Re: 1st to 4th: Need Help Disabling this Feature (jtheerman)
Unplugging the cags (it is on the left side of the tranny) will not "set a code light". Ask me how I know. The 1st to 4th shift light will still come on. So what. Most people just ignore it. Or get on the gas more. Bigger throttle openings prevent the 1st to 4th chit from happening. ;)
Oh hey, welcome to the forum & congrats on your first post!

Welcome to the forum. We won't charge you by the hour here. We can always use another lawyer here to solve some of our speeding ticket issues :lolg:
BTW, the cags was my first mod, too. Just buy the cags bypass kit and you're done. You do get Eckler's or Corvette Central or Mid America catalogs?
Re: 1st to 4th: Need Help Disabling this Feature (RichS)
My understanding is that you don't get a light even without the aftermarket doohickey. The CAGS mod plug was developed to keep dirt and crud out of the connections once it's unplugged. Am I in error?

Yes, please clarify. A friend w/ a 96 TA would really like to know!

It was implemented to avoid the gas guzzler tax on 6-speed Camaros and Corvettes. We should thank GM for making it very easy to bypass. :seeya [/QUOTE]
Gosh, I just get that warm and fuzzy feeling knowing our federal gov't. always has our best interests at heart.... :U
Hey, I've got a good idea, how about a moronic driver-road hazard tax on cell phone yakking minivan / SUV drivers?

Until I bought and installed the CAGS eliminator (the best way, by far), I just pulled fuse #28 in the fusebox. (this, too, was a '96)
Quick and easy. (it WILL disable your backup lights, but I didn't miss 'em )

Hi Kid,
You must really like the bomb that the feds have mandated that auto manufacturers install about 1.5 feet away from your face in the center of the steering wheel! :)
Not true in most cases. You may have gotten a code but that does mean everyone will. I know plenty of folks including me that just unplugged it and no codes. Yes, my vette is a 96 CE LT4. Good info though, some folks may need one if they unplug and get a code.
