Default Are slotted rotors directional?

Sorry if this is a dupe, but the response in the archives doesn't jive with a pic that I saw of another car. If they are directional, I think I was shipped two fronts for the same side. Problem is I don't know if I have two lefts or two rights. Here is what I was shipped. I expect an email from the vendor tomorrow.

Also the cooling fins inside the rotor ARE also directional...

Most rotors have a big fat L or R either on the outside or inside. Look closely as it is often so obvious that you can overlook it. :-)

Always go off the vanes, and not slots or cross drill patterns.
Some manufactures have regular patterns, and some like Baer have a reverse pattern.

Here's sort of an xray picture of the direction the vanes need to travel.

:iagree: with Ron, although from your pic it would appear that you have either two lefts or two rights.

As mentioned above, some companies use a 'reverse' slot design. My Baer eradispeed has the slots facing the front of the car (at the outermost ends) which is reverse slotted. SO, check the cooling fins In the rotor. They should tell you which direction the rotors are. Refer to the diagram used above it will tell you 100%.

If it's the vanes that are important, and the slot direction is arbitrary, those may be OK. What you might have is a correct pair of right and left rotors with the slots machined the same way (for convenience and to keep to tool setup costs down).

I'll check the veins but I also think I have two rights because when I mounted the left side it barely rubs the caliper bracket. The one I mounted on the right sits nicely between the bracket. It does seem really odd if the veins do show a left and a right regardless of the direction of the slot. Anyways, the vendor took a look the pic and agreed to replace them. And nowhere on my old Autozone rotors or on they new "Ebay" rotors is there a stamp with a left or right.

Interesting, the external dimensions should be identicalÂ…If there both fronts.
Because of the angle of your photo, I can't tell if the hats are the same height.
If I remember right the rears have a shorter hat then the fronts.

Anywho, if there both the same outside dimensions, then you might need to clean & scrub the inside of the rotor, & the hub surface. In fact you really need to do that anyways!
You need a very-very-very flat surface to mount those rotors, or you'll have excess runout. To much runout will lead to a pulsating brake pedal, and uneven wear.

Ron
