Default Pulling Aftermarket Plug Wires - By Hand Or With Boot Pulling Tool?

A question for you garage studs who are using aftermarket wires like MSD, Taylor, etc........since the boots are fairly difficult to remove from the spark plugs (due to spring locking plug terminals), do you remove by hand or use a boot pulling tool?

If a tool, what do you use? I have Taylor 8mm's, Taylor offers their own boot removal tool, it has a screwdriver-like handle and looks like this:
http://www.taylorvertex.com/catalogi...talogindex.htm - scroll odwn left to "Tool & Bulk Wire", click on 'spark plug boot removal tool", then enlarge the .pdf view. This tool, with shipping, costs over $20.

NAPA (and Autozone) has a different one for only $8.49, it looks completely different: http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/nc...&usrcommgrpid=

Is the NAPA tool a good one, and safe for our hi-performance boots/wires? What do you garage studs use?

I don't see how you could get either tool on the plug for the #8, #7, #6, cylinders. Maybe not the #5 plug either. At least on an LT1. L98 may allow better access.

I was thinking about getting a set of Taylors. Why is it so hard to get the wire boots off the plug?

I run MSD 8.5mm SuperConductors on the IROC and TPIS wires on the Vette. In both cases I just twist the boot a time or two and pull it off the plug.

A little silicone spray on the plug helps when you need to remove the boot as well as sealing it.

know that,,, even with dielectric in the boots my msd's are hard to get off, but twist 2-3 times and pull at the boot,,, have learned to put a towel behind my hands... saved a couple to gashes

Can't seem to pull up the picture of the Taylor tool, but the Napa tool is worthless in a vette (LT1). Don't pull on the wire or it will pull out, but you knew that. :yesnod:

I used the Taylor tool... and it really did help in removal!
