OK, I am browsing through the TPIS catalog and I am looking at the cams and start reading about the ZZ-X cam.
It says with a stock L98 with a ported base, stock runners and a 48mm TB with a TPIS airfoil will pull 408.2 HP 451 ft/tq on the dyno.
with a miniram and 52mm TB it will pull465.1.
Is this true and if so, why doesnt anyone run this camshaft?????????
First off, dont take TPiS' power claims as gospel. I'm not saying it wouldnt give that power but they conveniently leave some things out sometimes when they print power claims.
You should print what else they say about it, its been awhile since I looked at the TPiS catalog. What rpm is the peak at? what else has been done to the engine. I'm not believing a cam that puts out that power on a stock motor has decent street manners at all.
and dont even consider for a second putting an airfoil in your engine :nono:
Compare the overlap of that cam vs say the ZZ-9 cam and you will realize that there will be some serious lope. It should be a good cam for high rpm but doubt that it would work well on a street engine. Certainly with the necessary spring pressure longevity would be in strong question for street use. And don't foreget that the #113 heads would be hard pressed to flow enough air; check out the flow numbers in TPIS "Insider Hints".
It's hard to believe that stock #113 heads and stock runners would build that kind of hp, though a mini-ram would realy wake it up.
It would be interesting to see how that cam performs on say a 383 properly setup.
If that was a "stock L98" I'll bet it was blue printed; let me see the time slips.
