Can you guys give me some suggestions on how to reach the nuts on the fuel filter closest to the engine. I was going to replace it last night but it seems nearly impossible to replace. Thanks for your input. Hank
If you can't get the car up in the air enough, take the wheel and wheel well(s) off. Come at it from below. Should be easy if you have floor stands?
:yesnod:
Remove a few of the fuel line retainers on either side of the filter. This will allow you to move the filter for better access. Then you have to get under the car and figure out which of your wrenches best fits the situation. BTW, on my '94, the seal between the filter and the lines is made by o-rings. Be carefull not to tear them. If they're beat up you can get them at the dealer.
open the gas cap to relieve the pressure in the tank before you start otherwise you will have gas pouring out when you take the filter off.
guess how I know this. :D
:iagree: With all the above. Did mine a few months ago on jack stands. Pull the fuel pump fuse and take the gas cap off then run the car out of fuel. No matter what you do, you will have some fuel that will leak out since the fuel filter is the lowest point in the system.
the manual for my 96 says to remove the fuse for the fuel pump then start the motor and let it run till it dies from lack of fuel...to relieve pressure in the system...advice Ive read on the Forum says even after you do this a considerable amount of fuel will run out whey you disconnect the filter...Im planning on doing it this weekend...I already have the wheels off and removed the splash panel as EdSalinas suggests...I did that to get at the plugs...it looks like with the panel off it wont be too difficult...famous last words...good luck

Thanks for the information, I will take a look at taking the wheel panel out. I use the lift on post at the auto craft shop so getting the car off the ground is not the problem. The last time I did pull the fuse and let the car run until it stopped which was right away. I didn't know about the fuel cap though so next time I will do that also. Hank
