I have a 96, and for some reason the e-brake won't racket when it you pull it up. Anyone know a fix for this?

The first order of business would be to pull the cover and inspect the mechanism.

My E-brake mechanism was realy "gummed up" so I cleaned it and applied fresh grease.

You might have some mechanical wear/damage that would be apparent upon inspection.

There is a piece of plastic in the operating ratcheting system that fails. I don't remember exactly how to explain it. Mine was replaced under new car warranty, although I would not leave my LT4 at the dealership for mechanic test drives, I replaced it myself in the parking lot at the dealership. It is easy enough to replace. Removed the seat cushion and went to work. I do remember using a straight piece of wire inserted in a hole to hold something in check until a cable was connected. This happened in 1996. I had/have the service manual which helped.
