Default Powder coating questions

Does powder coat resist gasoline?

Is the "Not Chrome" easily smudged up or need maintenance?

Do the gloss colors maintain their gloss?

It seems to resist most anything. I bought a used intake that was powdercoated and had a heck of a time getting it off even with my bead blaster. the runners were near chrome and were still "shiny" before I blasted them. I had tried about everything to get the coat off before reverting to the blasting but nothing I used seemed to phase it.

The coating on the intake looked very good even after it had been used.

The only thing powder coating will not resist is media blasting and aluminum stripper. It resists gas oil, coolant brake fluid..... haven't tried anything else. I've cleaned mine with metal polish :D

Any time you use a metallic color, you will need to do a clear coat over it, otherwise it will oxidize, as it is exposed to air. The clear coat will kepp it from changing colors.

The colors should not fade.

As an alternate, has anybody painted something such as a TB or intake with autobody paint, and also cleared it? If I paint my intake to match the car, will it hold up? If the clear will protect the powdercoat, then it should protect the paint too, right? I would keep the area under bolt heads bare alum to prevent chipping and flaking when a bolt is tightened down.

The powder coat will not adhear to paint easily and will flake.

yes it does
Is the "Not Chrome" easily smudged up or need maintenance?
not chrome is super touchy, it is crap, and if you clear it , then it comes out like grey
Do the gloss colors maintain their gloss?
yep, its works well, when done properly

as others have said..

Its hold sup to LOTS of abuse. I have since quit using the Mirror Silver or Almost chrome because Ive noticed once someone mars it or smuges it somehow Its done :( You cant bring the dark spots back to the almost chrome look. It actually pulls the metal flake to give it thaty chrome look out of the powder.

As for all the other colors. You can wetsand and buff em just like automotive paint to acheive a nice look.

but ANY powder with metalflake etc. you cant do this with. like the Black Chrome, Almost Chrome, etc...

LD, hit me up via e-mail if your having porblems with something.

Thanks

I was curious of the durability of using a base coat/clear coat auto paint on a bare alum intake manifold INSTEAD of powdercoating. Not powdercoating a painted surface.

What about Ceramci Coating, is that the best option for a shiny look that wont discolor?

Hi LD,
Have you thought about Jet hot coatings? They have that nice Sterling Silver finish they are braggin about on their web site and I believe is a very durable finish.I believe they can coat anything, wont hurt to ask.Im almost positive I seen an engine in a car magazine that had the intake manifold, brackets, and other engine parts Jet Hot coated and had a real nice shine to it.
I would imagine it holds up very well to the elements and chemicals.
(Unless Im confusing them with HP coatings or one of those retailers)
:)

ld,

Yes ceramic is always a option. I could also go this way if you like. If you want Shinny You can always have it polished and coat it with zoopseal. this way you dont have to worry about the upkeep of polishing it once in a while. Zoopseal is sopost to hold up for 1-2yrs with out having to touch it again with polish.

I can put you in contach with a buddy of mine MIKE who does awesome work polishing. matter of fact there is a link of my main website.

I'll e-mail you also.
