Default Question when replacing iron heads on 85

I'm replacing the original heads with a remanufactured set. They both have a cast number of 462624 and seem match up with everything on one of them. The other one has a larger hole for the (coolant temp, I believe ) sensor between the #1 and #3 cylinders. Both of my older ones are the smaller size. Is there another size sensor I can get, or am I going to have to return this one and wait for another to come in? Any help would be appreciated.

I've got the original sensors off the original heads. One of the new ones is the same size, one is larger even though they're the same casting number. I didn't know if someone would know another sensor that would fit or not. I've got to go back up to the auto parts store because the new head bolts they sold me are crap. The bolt heads started stripping when I was tightening to 45 lb/ft, way before the required 68 lb/ft. I'll see if they know anything about the sensor.

OH CRAP ! Not the sensor holes, the bolts. I hope for your sake it really IS the bolts and not the block. Did you chase the threads before you put the heads on?

If you bought these heads from a normal retail source, you ought to be able to exchange the head of one with the proper size sensor hole. I was unaware there were two different sizes. Otherwise, that is just a pipe thread. there should be a pipe bushing to install your sensor in the oversized hole. Good luck, and...

RACE ON!!!

It was the bolts, I cleaned up and reused the old ones and everything went fine. I took the odd head back up and found a pipe thread fitting/adaptor/whatever they called it to get the sensor to fit. Thanks for the help!
