Here is a good way to think about it. In 92 when the LT-1 was put into the vette GM did away with the optional engine oil cooler. Reason is they went to Mobil 1 syn as a factory fill oil. Thus the oil cooler was not needed due to the better oil. I am no expert so I can only say what I have read.
I think Mobil 1 is great I have a toyota camry with 173XXX miles on it I drive everyday. It was my Dad's car before I got it, and he used Mobil 1 in it. I use Asmoil in my vette though. I like it better. I used to work for NAPA in high school and the owner used amsoil in the truck and the engine out lasted the truck. It was finally junked because the truck had been banged up so much. It was on it's 4th bench seat, and so on. I think it had over 300,XXX miles on it when junked. It had over 250,XXX miles when I felt, and they used it for a few more years after.
Bottom line is Just make sure you have oil in your engine, and it's changed when it should be.
Mobil sometimes gets a bad rap because of a recall they had back in the 90's. Apparently there was a bad batch and some people's motors were ruined. I believe Mobil made right by it, though, and paid for the damages.
I use nothing but Mobil 1 in my cars (except for my 85).
mobil one is the best for the vette it roles off the assembly line with it its not made to meet gm standards but to exceed it !!! now amsoil on the other hand if had the money to by that stuff i would they use that in the space shuttle !!!!
