Default Pulley question

Hey guys. before i get flamed please know that i DID spend quite a bit of time reading past posts about this before i decided to start my own thread. It seems like pulley systems for LT1/4 cars can give you quite a bit of power. or so i gathered from peoples claims of track and/or dyno improvements. I have also learned that it can be at the expense of cooling and voltage. my questions are these. can the cooling problem be erased if you have a electric waterpump? that would solve that problem? and is there any way to solve the voltage problem. i dont want my battery dying in traffic or my headlights to dim really bad or anything. i am also about to put a stereo system in the car and i need to make sure the alternator can push it.. so are thereany remedies where i can still use the pulley setups and fix the voltage problems?

for LT1/4 motors, cooling is not an issue - the waterpump is driven by a shaft off the cam... not the drive belt.

so, nothing to fret there.

voltage... nasty trade off, really... you put on a higher amp alternator, and it draws as much current as the lower amp alternator with the stock pulley.

I guess the question you must ask - how long will it idle? I mean, once up to 10mph, the alternator will be back to normal function... so, for 30 seconds out of every 10 minutes of driving will be idle.

thanks for the info about the waterpump. after reading some more i have found that some ppl said my LT4 has a better pulley system than a lt1 anyway and that trying to upgrade lt4 pulleys is really a waste of money. thanks for the input! any more is welcome!

I put on an underdrive crank pully and left the aly pully on. I still have 13.8-14.1 at idle. Seams to rev faster. The alt is regulated so even at WOT it only puts out about 14 volts unless more is needed.

LT1.. They run the same pulley. My stock pulley was wobbling and causing a slight vibration. I bought mine from Corvette America on e-bay it was shipped with the belt. The Hyper-tech pully was better quality than the stock.

I have no numbers. But it deal feal like it reved faster and made more power. The best mod was the Hooker Headers. I had done all of the intake and when thoses went on. Wow I was HAPPY. The pulley install was more than the 30 min they said but it wasn't that bad you will have to unbolt the motor mounts and raise the motor about 2" to get the old one out.

Do you happen to have a part number for the belt? I put a pulley on mine (made by March??), but haven't tried searching for a belt yet. My pulley is 5.75" dia at the outer rim. I doubt they vary much between brands. And is this belt for a crank pulley only?

I believe it is 42.7" I know that it is 2 sizes smaller than stock. Just go to the auto store and they can look up the stock size then go 2 sizes smaller. It is a standard size.
