Looking at curb weights last night, the 1993 @over 3300 lbs is 100 lb heavier than a 1992 or 1995. 1996 is heavier than 1995, but 1993 is the heaviest C4.
What did GM do in 1993 that ballooned the weight so much?
Ah, I don't know but I wouldn't trust anything that didn't come GM directly. I have a GM Spec Sheet for C4 92-96 that I will consult when I get a chance, but just searching on the internet proves pointless.
I see sites that say the 93' weighs 3333lbs while the 92' weighs 3223lbs and also sites that say the 93' weighs 3333lbs while the 92' weighs 3338lbs. Finding accurate figures on the internet is like trying to kill a fly 100 yards away with a cannon.
1. In 92' they had 275 40ZR17's all the way around with 17x9.5in rims. In 93' (to 96') they changed to the stagged rear 255 40ZR17's (17x8.5in) and front 275 40ZR17's (17x9.5in) which I think would decrease considerable weight.
2. There is a MAF sensor on 93' - 96' vs 92' but that isn't much at all...
3. I know in 94' they changed the fuel system a little bit (adding some parts) and the 4L60 became the 4L60-E which is actually a slightly heavier transmission (meaning including computers)
4. Pre 1995, they used the R-12 (Freon) refrigerant in the air conditioning systems before the new "ozone friendly" R-134a came along in 1996 and late model 1995 Corvettes. The Freon was more dense...adding a lit bit more weight to the old systems. ( I'm talking like 1/2 a pound if that...)
5. The seats that changed in 1995, 1996 Corvettes were about 5-6 pounds lighter. Not to mention the power seat switch change.
6. More standard options in later models. (Such as the dual air bags)
I thought that the 1992 was the lightest only by 40 lbs or so versus the other years. These are all just suggestions.

Hers's what Antonick's "Corvette Specs has for hatchbacks with automatic transmissions.
