What will a scanner show

I rep for Ease and if you do consider an Ease scan tool I'll get you a 10% rebate if you order from me. The Ease web site at http://www.obd2.com has all kinds of info and screen captures to lok at. If that is not enough, email me directly and I'll send you an html write-up with additional screen captures from use on my 88 OBD1 Coupe.
A less sofisticated and less expensive scan tool is the one made by Craig Moates which he posts for FREE. http://ice.prohosting.com/moates/index.html

You don't say if you disconnected the battery to clear the code 33 or just installed the new relay. I would recommend disconnecting the battery negative terminal to completely clear the ECM of all old codes. Then reconnect and drive the car around. See if that helps clear up the problem as the ECM "relearns".
There was a TechService Bulletin 87-270-6E (Jan. 1988) for a change in the relays used by 86 Vettes. The old relay values were the same for both 85 -86 Vettes an were the same part #:
MAF Power ... 1067925
MAF Deoxidize (Burnoff) ... 1067925
The TSB recommendation change for 1986 (only) Vettes was:
MAF Power ... 1067925
MAF Deoxidize (Burnoff) ... 1009471
On 85s the 2 relays remain the same, part # 1067925 for both.
For 87 - 89 the MAF Power & MAF Burnoff relays are a different relay but still both the same part # 14089936. It is possible that the new relay you have is the old number relay or the replacement for an 87-89 Vette and the incorrect one for an 86.
