I hate removing those things major PITA, I started taking the piston / pin / rod assembly back to the machine shop & let them do it, they get plenty of practice. Disassemble, Clean, Magnaflux, & record the big / small rod end dimensions cost $100 for all eight.
Re: SPIROLOX.....HTF do I gettem out? (89 Paul in Cal)
:D you guys have me on the edge of my seat :D Almost got an answer there. :D
How do I actually physically get them out? What tool do I use? What technique? Needle nose pliers pulling them out?
Re: SPIROLOX.....HTF do I gettem out? (89 Paul in Cal)
use an awl or a small regular slotted screw driver and dig into the end of the spirolock and start the end out and work the rest of it out its not to bad once you do a few
Re: SPIROLOX.....HTF do I gettem out? (CORKVETTE1)
I always ended up scratching the pistons & tearing up my fingers, just plain got tired of messing with it, like CORKVETTE1, mentioned you have to get the end started and then kind of keep "unscrewing" them up and out. They form a helix, and the tension from that spring-loaded helix is what retains them in place. You may know this, but I just read the entire thread again, and noticed no one has mentioned these are not designed to be reused; you basically destroy them upon removal...

I got them out!
A swiss army knife's blade did the trick!
Thanx Andy for providing links showing what they look like. Based on that, I tried the swiss army knife blade.
