Default LT1 Head Gasket thickness ?

I understand that you can purchase a fel-pro head gasket that has a thickness of .039 . Is the factory gasket .049 ? Also, I understand the impala gasket is .029. If all of this is true, would there be any problems with using the impala gasket and a hot cam? And is the dealer the best source for the impala gasket?

The Impalla SS head gaskets will give you an additional .5 compression. They work great on my car, I would highly recommend.

Imp SS head gasket part # 12553160

Call Chris May at Superior Chevrolet, he'll hook you up.

But do you know what the orig. gasket thickness is on the corvette LT1? To elaborate on this a little more, I have a set of heads that have been ported, and they have 58cc chambers. I am trying to determine how much to mill them to get back to a 54cc chamber, or possibly getting there with a .020 thinner headgasket. By the way, I deal with Chris on all my factory parts. He is a good man.

Stock LT1 gasket is .050". Stock cc size is 54 cc, stock deck height will be about .022-.025", and the valve relief pockets are -5cc.

There is a good calculator here.

:iagree:

Mr Gasket is also making an LT series head gasket now, I believe it is .026 compressed, and Cometic makes one that measures .020, double check my numbers, but they are very close.

I've seen the LT series combustion chambers rated from 54.4 CC - 56.0 CC, I used a large syringe and measured 53 CC, on my LT4 heads, I'll know what a professional burette setup measures in CC's tomorrow....
