Default Lower Profile Tire Affect Handling?

The HRE wheels that I want to get eventualy only come in 18" and higher... So since the stock C4 wheels are in 17", will having to shave an 1" off the tire affect the handling? Better or worse? If anybody has HRE wheels on there Vette, could you post them... Thanks for the help

I don't think they will be better or worse really. I think the tire type and width makes the most difference in our cars. The lower sidewall will be a little more precise, but at the price of less forgiving breakaway characteristics and will follow grooves in the pavement more. It will be easier to damage the rim/tire on potholes, etc. They sure do look cool though.

They should improve handling but maybe not hookup, although more rubber on the road may offset stiffer sidewalls.

compound has to do with 'hooking up' a same width 19 inch tire vs the same width 17 depends only on compound for traction. Modern tires dont flex for traction like slicks do. Even drag radials dont. Higher profile tires will flex during cornering. Some people like this because it helps them learn the max breakaway point. Some dont because it makes the car roll over as if it has soft springs.
A lower profile will give you more precise handling and more 'feel' including more feel for those potholes and ruts too.
Personally i love low pros. Got 305/30/19s on mine and theyre SWEET!
