i had this problem a while back, i figured one of the tranny lines was plugged, so i blew them out with an air hose, the problem went away, but now its back. :cry
what would be causing this, it gets so hot that you almost can't put your arm on the consol :yesnod:
Wow, if true that will really kill the overdrive quickly. It might be worth it to have the tranny cooler portion of your radiator flushed.
is there a product that i can add to help with this, or must i take it in?
you should be able to DIY... if it's like any other tranny cooler it's on the radiator.
remove both transmission lines from the radiator, and block off the bottom one... I would get some Transmedic, feed it and fill up the cooler, let it work for a little while, remove the bottom plug and let it drain. maybe hit it with some brake cleaner and then compressed air.
if that don't do it, you will need to check into a standalone cooler.
I agree with scorp..get it power flushed..the rad system is pretty simple, there's a blockage some were, but I don't think it's in the radiator. Best of luck and hope its a cheap fix.

Re: 4+3 running very hot (atotalnincompoop)
Are you sure its the tranny and not the cat? Mine gets this way too sometimes, and I assumed it was the cat. Although, I haven't noticed it with the new high flow cat on there yet.
I've had no trouble with the 4+3 od operating correctly. Now you've got me scared, I should maybe put in a tranny temp guage anyways. :(
