Default Questions about Hooker Super ProComp Headers

I am looking at the 2149s for my 86 Vette, and it says that they do not fit with AFR angle plug heads. What does this mean to me and my model and year Vette? Also it says that the Header comes with Metallic Ceramic THERMAL BARRIER COATING. Is this the coating that I keep hearing so much about that is important? Here is the link. If you guys could tell me if these will fit without any complications, then I would appretiate it. Thanks.

They will fit L98 angle plugs, but not AFR angle plugs. If you are still running the stock heads, or you are running AFRs with L98 angle plugs, they will go on fine.

You will also need a new front y pipe as long tubes will go well beyond the beginnings of your pre cats. If you have no smog equiptment or don't care to you may want to look at the 2151 headres as they have no provisions for EGR equiptment. I am running the 2149s on my '86 right now and I have just capped the EGR pipes, but it would be easier to change plugs without them.

Go with the coated headers.

C4-Wolf is right on with the head thing. The coating on the 2149s IS what you have heard so much about as being so desirable. However, Hooker only coats the outside. The aftermarket coaters, coat both the inside and outside. A lot of people have the Hooker coating and are satisfied, but being informed, is why you asked. The 2151s, C4-Wolf mentioned, are uncoated. The 2151s are available coated from Hooker as 2151-1. They have NO smog fitting provisions. You will either need a collector with an O2 fitting, or have to have one added. Scorp508 reported in a recent post, that the EGR connection in the 2149 headers is not drilled for exhaust passage. To hook up the EGR it must be drilled to open it up, but it is there. I think the tubeS C4-Wolf is refering to are the AIR tubes. Now you have enough info to drive you nuts. Good luck, and...

Do the 2151-1s come with the y pipe? What is the cost? Are they typically in stock at Jeg's? How do they compare to the TPIS or Lingenfelter headers? Many times Jegs/Summitt will be selling the same items, they just don't have the TPIS / Lingenfelter name (upcharge).

Thanks,
Aaron

the Y pipe is not included in the price of the headers. It is about another $150.00
