We all hate 'em, and I agree, there's no reason that should be happening. But, I think you have an electrical problem CAUSING that to happen??? I'd look deeper into the circuit, cause there's something else going on there for sure......
Have it cleaned out then use some Dielctric grease in there, that will keep most of the corrosion out.
He did ... the thing was covered in it. Unfortunately the wiring harness is $80 and one of the leads on it was sooooo corroded that when trying to clean it, it just fell out.
Yeah, from that one pic it actually looks like one of the pins inside the opti completely corroded off and is probably stuck inside that plug. All that junk is trash now. At least with the DynaSpark this won't be an issue as they solder and seal that connection.
that corrosion is odd... could some coolant be getting in there? I mean.. check your throttle coolant lines. if it's leaking down that way, it would do this.
those are low voltage signal lines. somethign nasty has gotten in there.
you know what I would do? take that lead to your local college/university and have the chem lab figure out what happened...
Was the corrosion anywhere outside of the plug. It looks really weird, as blue is not a normal corrosion in a car, usually white corrosion. It almost looks like a cleaner.
How about this, your battery connections will make this greenish white residue when you don't have a clean and positive connection. Is it possible that one of the pins really didn't have a good enough connection? What color would the dialectric grease turn when it is subjected to sparking? Just a WAG.

I haven't seen anything like that outside of that location.

I had the same corrosion before, without the dielectric grease, so it's been present on two different harnesses with and without grease. :mad
