I need a new battery for the Passive Keyless Entry key fob for my 93. The old battery, a Maxell CR2450 has a recessed ridge around the edge on the positive side, which fits into two clips in the fob to hold the battery in. I've looked all over, but every CR2450 battery I've found has a flat positive side, which makes it too thick to fit. Even the one the Chevy dealer carries, also a Maxell brand will not fit. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: PKE Key Fob (Mark93)
I don't know squat about those little batteries but took mine to Wal-Mart and the guy in the electronics department matched it up. No problem, works fine.
Look for Toshiba CR2450 - it's thinner than the Maxell. The thicker ones fit, but they put extra stress on the locking tab, which will be much more prone to breakage. I know from experience :cry

I have gone back and forth with the local electronics shops. They all say that every CR2450 is the same but we know different. Be very carefull when using the thicker ones, as I've already broke the locking tab on my extra fob. FYI, if you can find a Sanyo CR2450, it also has the reccessed ridge. In fact, if you do, buy a couple extra and I'll purchase them from you :D
Good luck

Yeah, I was able to force an Energizer with the flat top in there, but I didn't like the way it distorted the plastic clip that holds the battery in. I'll try to find the Sanyo or Toshiba. You would think that Chevy would carry the correct size. :smash:
I also experienced this when trying to stuff a replacement battery in the fob. I tried crimping the first battery I found and that was a disaster. Then I tried forcing the next battery and broke the plastic prong that secures the proper (thinner) battery. I was about to give up but a local watch repair shop had 2 of the older style Sanyo batteries with the recessed ridge. What kind of stoopid design is based on a battery that you cannot buy?
I too thought I was being pretty "trick" by taking the needle nose pliers to the edge, just enough to make it fit properly. It worked great....for about a half day  Shortest lifespan for a battery I ever witnessed.
