Ok, I know its been asked about 5 times according to the archive and poor BobZZ4 keeps posting his B&M Hammer on here, but has anyone yet successfully installed either a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 orQuarter Stick without making hideous modifications to the center console. I was going to try the B&M Z-gate before, but once again, it would've included me cutting away parts of my console that I like rather much :-). If you've done it, please post a pic...
Willie Shields has a 91 Steel Blue "Shinoda" ZR1, that has been converted to 700R4, with a B&M Hammer Shifter and it looks TOTALLY stock. Unfortunately I don't have any pix of it, but damn did it look sweet! If I EVER see him or the car again, I will be SURE to take PLENTY of pix!
So, I know it CAN be done to look stock..but I don't know how much custom work it'd take.
I have a B+M Quicksilver in my '87.Because my shifter is on the other side of the car to yours I would have to butcher the console so am fabricating new one so no pics of finished install though can send you some of setup.
However , with the shifter mounted on the trans tunnel , it protrudes through the console just nicely that if you use only the chrome surround it covers the stock hole perfectly.
I am on the brink of getting the B&M hammer shifter into my car
I absolutely HATE did I say HATE racing with the stock shifter. About every 4 track appearance I push it a little to far on the 1-=>2 shift and miss 2nd gear. IT SUCKS!@ :mad
Therefor I am on a mission. Hopefully if the wife is feeling better tonight to get out to the dealership and work on the final installation of the shifter tonight. I will take some pictures of it.
I am definately going to have to cut the console a little, but it will be covered with the new B&M shifter console top. It should work out nearly perfect for a super clean look. And best of all. Ratchet shifting that will eliminate the possibility for a miss shift. It will also make me more consistant on 1-2 shifts. As now I have to "nurse" it into 2nd since I am constantly worried about overshifting it. Anyone that has raced with the stock P.O.S shifter knows exactly what I am talking about. It got much worse with the better quicker shifting tranny I have now. One little bit past the next gear, its into the following gear. Did I mention I hate the stock shifter :jester :D
I will post some picture of how it looks and how I did it. I am utilizing the B&M console so that I do not have to cut and remold the fiberglass that the stock shifter mounts to. There is no way to get it in there otherwise. If that guy you mentioned is using the stock console, that is what be must have done, as its impossible with the little bit of room down in there.
It should be safe to cut that little dove tail off of the back of the shifters I would assume instead of cutting the console bieng that it doesn't really mount to anything. If we did that we could probably get just about any small ratchet shifter to fit seamlessly and only have a problem with using the reverse lock and a boot. I guess it'd be one or the other. I'm going to consult with one of my local experts at Virginia Speed :smash:

What kind of tranny do you have?
I'm asking because on stock 700r4 if I shift from 1>D it'll
still shift 1>2 and hold in 2 till 4900 rpm.
its a 700r4, but it shifts on a dime. The way I had it set up from pro-built. Even the way yours is is unacceptable, when your shift points are higher than 4900RPM. Know what I mean?
There is no way to get a ratchet shifter down in one of these consoles without working the underneath where it mounts or the console itself then containing the mods with the aftermarket base some how. There just is not enough room and these ratchet shifters have a bunch going on down there, and consequently it takes up space.
