just bought this car ,and when you first crank it ,it surges terribly when cold and runs very rich then runs pretty smoothwhen warm . please help open for suggestions
It's caused by minimum idle speed being too low. Most commonly caused by buildup of carbon in the throttle body, the throttle bodies need to be cleaned.
Take the cleaner off and use throttle body cleaner and a tooth brush to remove all carbon from the throttle blades.
Unless youve had some linkage problems or someone goofing around with the throttle linkage, it probably does not need to be balanced.

Oh...and the CFI forums are pretty good too.
:iagree: also while you have the air cleaner off open up the throttle blades and look down into the intake, the stock intake had swirl plates that helped mix the air and fuel when cool. sometimes people take them out to help the intake flow better but when this is done the engine tends to run a little rough when cold and smooths out once up to temp. :smash:
