TV cable question
When I had my tranny rebuilt in Aug, when I got it back I marked the TV cable at the adjustment point on the Plenum with a sharpie. Well I had the day off today, so I figure while waiting for the electrician to show up I would fool around under the hood a little,, I readjusted the TV cable and mand o man what a difference,,, but when I took it for a ride,,, I came on to it at WOT from 15mph and we she hit second gear she went side ways and it seemed like it didnt want to shift into drive........ Should I readjust it? ,,, just a little bit morre or is this natural,,,, after all it is a built tranny with a 2600 stall,, but it didnt shift at 5500...
Actually you should not lower line pressure too much; it sounds like you moved the head toward the TB which lowers line pressure, softens shifts and raises part throttle shift points.
That is exactly what I did,,, but shoouldnt it shift at the same point as before?
I am not an expert .

I know your woes. I have a 1991 Auto that was shifting and doing what it is supposed to do. But I got in it and took off and it would not shift to drive even at 5500RPM. Checked my GM service manuals and have been going through all the checks before givin up and gettin a new transmission. GM book says to check TCC (torque converter clutch) solenoid first. Then for the type of problem i.e., no upshift condition, check the governor. Then check control valve for any sticking or binding throttle and/or shift valvles. Then check 2-4 servo and then bands. I've checked all but the servo and bands and they all checked out fine. The servo and bands appear to be a little more than what I want to chew on right now. Hope you get yours going!!!! :smash: :smash:
I guess what I'm getting at, aside from late night rambling, is that the tranny wouldn't know you're at wot unless the TV cable tells it that. Everything, like the governor, the weights on the governor and the TV cable all work together to determine shift points and firmness.
The cable should be adjusted as the manual and this forum's said many times before, so that the tranny thinks you have the pedal to the floor when you do. Make sure you adjust it by the pedal and not by turning the t/b bracket by hand. It makes a pretty big difference, as much as a couple notches.
I think that made sense.
