I just received the hydraulic upgrade components to replace the scissor hood support on my '86. Is the install as easy as the instructions portray? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I will also be replacing the two small struts located at the front of the hood. If anyone is interested, I bought the complete kit (1 large strut, 2 small struts & 2 brackets) from Chris May at Superior Chevrolet for $230.
Re: Hydraulic Hood Support Upgrade Question? (CG77VETTE)
It can be very simple according to the lower support. The one I used had to be incorporated into the front fender brace that is just ahead of the tire well on the drivers side. That is where the lower bracket mounts. There are two threaded holes on the hood bottom that the upper bracket mounts. I had to cut a notch into that fender bracket and weld the fender bracket and lower hood support bracket together. I didn't use the small struts, my car had them. You have to use the bolts that are holding your knee brace on to secure the upper bracket. This works best with two people, one to hold the hood up.If you are confused you can email me at: eanthoney@hot.rr.com. Or we can talk on the phone. I've got pictures that I can send. I've got a complete setup that I would have sold you cheaper than $230.00.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! :flag
Re: Hydraulic Hood Support Upgrade Question? (CG77VETTE)
Thanks for all the replies. I will take pictures and post them when I complete the installation. As far as the price, I feel I paid a fair price since Zip has a kit for $240 plus shipping and I don't know the manufacturer of the components. The components I bought are 100% GM which gives me piece of mind.
