Default crud in oil- options?

Okey dokey, I had some over-heating problems on a 3* farenheit ambient air temp startup, so thats a different issue with my coolant- But I checked the oil as a precursory step and noticed that, although the oil itself looks clean, there appears to be a frosty crud on the dipstick- like it's floating on top in the pan and getting left behind on the dipstick. THis brownish crud was also slushed a little on the very top of the dipstick where I presume some crankcase gasses carried it there.

SO: I am going to double-check the cooling system as soon as I can remove the cap, and put pure antifreeze in there just in case... but preliminary inspection showed no system leaks so we'll see what the level is and whether or not the coolant started to slush up in the cold (not enough antifreeze perhaps).

But as for the contaminated oil, it should be noted that the radiator is less than six months old and the engine was completely rebuilt with new heads over a year ago, and after driving for about a month since the last oil change- there doesn't "appear" to be much crap in the oil pan (a good thing). So am I looking at a small, "just one of those things" head gasket leak or...?

:banghead:

could be some condensation... I would keep an eye on it.

if it was a head gasket, there would be a lot more crud present. infact, it would look a lot like a milkshake.

I chatted with a neighbor about it and he agreed- the water droplets were crystal clear and the oil still looks new. Just seems to be a lot of it- must be because of the weather...?

Shew. Thanks for the post.
