Never thought in Florida I would have this problem. Can't get the A/C off and switch to heat , checked all the vacum lines there are good. Any feedback would help.
Last night I paid great attention to how it is acting, after the car is warmed up and I slide the control to the right farhtest position (defrost) I get intial heat but the a/c quickly over takes it. I quess I have to take the d@#* dash bord apart to really get into it.
Need more info: Manual or Electronic Air? Does the compressor switch off when you select heat? Is air being directed out of the correct vents for all control panel positions?
Compressor operation is from the a/c fuse, through the dash control, out to the high pressure and low pressure cut off switches and then to the compressor. Usuallly, if the compressor continues to run regardless of switch position, there is a short to voltage beyond the control panel or the control panel has an internal short. However in your case, if all it has is a/c and none of the vents are switching over as you move the slider, sounds as if the slider is broken and you need a new control panel. As the slider moves between selected funtions, it uncovers or closes vacuum ports contolling the position of the air doors so the vent position should change regardless of what the compressor is doing. It's been a long time since I've taken a manual control apart, so I don't know if it can be reattached.
