I'm going to a Meziere electric water pump and need to plug the water pump drivshaft hole in the timing cover. I'm wondering for those of you who have done this, what size freeze plug do I need? TIA! :)
Unfortunately I don't know the exact size but I do know it wasn't a standard size. Because of that I ran the cover up to the machine shop and had them fit/press one in. For $5 it was a quick and painless way to go.
Some will faint at paying $5 for a $0.50 part but when you have hundreds tied up already, I don't see the big deal of $5 more. Besides, if $5 is going to make someone go broke then they probably ought to re-think their priorities...sorry...getting off my soap box.
Btw...Prior to installation I cleaned the exterior surface of the cover and new plug really well. I then coated the plug (especially around the edges where it meets the cover) with JB Weld. Figured that'd be one more way to prevent any oil leaks or oil weeping.
Thanks much. I asked the local machine shop owner if he had any and he told me that he'd have to order them. Like a performance shop would be out anyway... Soooo... I guess I'll have to see if there's another shop in the area that can help me out (unless someone else chimes in with the size). :)
