When replacing the stock rockers (in my case on my 84 1.5's I believe) with 1.6's, is it necessary to put in new springs? my engine has 44K miles on it to date...I would like to just swap them out and adjust for lash etc...without a complete retiming or god forbid dropping a valve in the combustion chamber!
I would like self aligning rollers- but am clueless on a brand....
I would replace the springs. The factory springs were low friction low RPM units, by design so the engine would have less parasitic power losses and get better mileage. The factory 84 springs are NOT intended for performance use.
If you have an 84, then I believe you don't have roller rockers. But roller tip rockers. The only brand I have heard of that has these are Comp Cams Pro Magnum Roller Tip Rockers (in 1.52 and 1.6) ratio.
I wouldn't mind hearing more, but these seem to be the best from what I have gotten from the forum.
EDIT: There are other brands like I think summit makes them, or Elgin, but I have not heard about the quality and accuracy of those.
