I got the 4 bolts out of the cluster but was unable to get it out of the dash. I can't see too well in there but it looks as if the wiring harness is holding it in on the right side. How does one go about removing this without having the harness shrink back to where I will have great difficulty hooking it back up again?
There are Safety Retaining Clips at the Harness connectors that need to come off first. Just get the Cluster Out and you can work on increasing the Slack in the Harness for re-installation with more working room (cluster out.)
Everyone I've spoke with had no problem-but it does look  re-installation looks like it might be the most difficult part-but nobody has commented on it. :seeya
Once you get those safety clips off , it should be easy to remove the two harness plugs. You will need to turn the cluster just right to get it out, but it will come. I found that I had to put a little upward pressure on the dash pad (not too much) to get the clearance I needed. Reinstall is easier that removal. I know cause I did it numerous times before I finally got the darn thing fixed.
It was pretty straight forward. It was kind of tough to wedge it out but with some twisting and turning it comes out. I snapped a harness safety clip taking those off so be careful with those.
