L98 Spark Timing
Does the ECM use the distributor white "tach" wire signal for spark input or the "reference" from the HEI distributor module? Another question: can the engine run if this "reference" signal from the HEI module is missing? :confused:

I would tend to doubt it.... that wire feeds the tach only. The other wires from the dist. read position & ECM adjusts back. I'm sure others here have exact signal routing from manual but mines downstairs right now.

ECM uses the "reference" signal in determining RPM. The "tach" signal, as stated, used by tachometer. Don't believe the engine will run without "reference" signal.
